Hidden Bushwalking Gem in Inner Sydney - The Two Valley Trail

We didn’t expect to do any outdoor activity last weekend. The forecast looked pretty bleak, rainy, cloudy, and windy.
Overall, we thought it was best to stay at home in front of TV.
So, it was a real surprise when the sun came out after lunch time.
Then we decided to try this walk nearby.

Around 4pm, we drove to Bexley North and parked the car near the station. A short walk revealed an entrance to a small walking track.
At this point I realised that I was a bit under prepare for the walk. The top soil is soft and a muddy.
The tree branches are low and I can see flying insects ahead of me.

The place is Illoura Park Reserve and it’s part of the Two Valley Trail of Cooks River and Wolli Creek.
Our initial expectation of mild walking track suddenly proved to be wrong. J The ‘track’ looked like it hasn’t been touched for some time and I truly missed my walking boots and insect repellents.
I also carried medium size DSLR camera with me, as I was expecting to shoot some interesting flowers or other inhabitant of the track.
So, there we were in the middle of a mini forest trying our best to not soak our sneakers and dodge branches at the same time.

The track is very fascinating, lots of wild flowers, little chubby lizards, insects (if anyone likes insects), the mosquitoes can smell sweet sweet blood from miles away.
It’s a little unfortunate that the signs aren’t that clear. At one stage we thought we were lost. But then we heard train sound, so, that was reassuring.  This walking track is along the East Hills Line train line.

I had to stop a few times to take photos. I just have to because this place is so amazing, lots of tall trees covered in moss and fungi. Fallen branches covered in fungus.

There are lots of mushrooms, big and small, inedible of course.

Giant Mushroom

We had to stop our journey at roughly around Turella because thunderstorm was approaching and we still had to walk back. We’re hoping next weekend we can try this track again and go all the way to Wolli Creek. Anyone joining us? J

This place is a true hidden gem in the middle of Sydney.
